The Man and Woman of the Year awards are presented annually to performers who have made a lasting and impressive contribution to the world of entertainment. Established in 1951, the Woman of the Year award has been granted to many notable and talented entertainers. On January 29, 2015 the Hasty Pudding Theatricals of Harvard University celebrated the recipient of their 2015 Woman of the Year award, Amy Poehler, with support from Related and Beacon Capital Partners.

Amy Poehler is one of Hollywood’s most versatile and sought after talents. She currently stars on the Emmy-nominated Parks and Recreation as “Leslie Knope,” a role for which she has received much critical acclaim, including a 2014 Golden Globe win and five consecutive Emmy nominations. Poehler can also be seen as the host and producer of her award-winning online series Smart Girls at the Party and will be featured in a number of upcoming film projects, including Sisters alongside Tina Fey and as the voice of “Joy” in Pixar’s next animated film, Inside Out. Poehler returned for a third and final time to co-host the 72nd Golden Globe Awards this January. Poehler spent seven seasons on Saturday Night Live and is a founding member of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater. Her first book, Yes Please, debuted at #1 on the New York Times best-seller list.

The Woman of the Year event was held despite snow storm Juno pounding the area in the last few days. Following a private lunch with the Hasty Pudding Theatricals at Sandrine’s, Ms. Poehler led a parade through the streets of Cambridge. After the parade, the president of the Hasty Pudding Theatricals, Jason Hellerstein ’15, and the vice president of the cast, Sam Clark ’15, hosted a celebrity roast for the actress and presented her Pudding Pot at Farkas Hall, the Hasty Pudding’s historic home in the heart of Harvard Square since 1889. Afterward, Hasty Pudding cast members performed a preview of several musical numbers from the group’s 167th production “¡Oops!… Madrid it again!.”

Following the show, Mrs Poehler participated in a private seminar with the Hasty Pudding Theatricals company, during which she was presented with the now traditional Woman of the Year gift basket which this year included a one-of-a-kind, custom made pair of shoes from the Hasty Pudding’s footwear licensee Stubbs & Wootton, embroidered with Amy Poehler’s name and the famous Pudding Pot.

The Man of the Year festivities will take place on Friday, February 6th, 2015. The producers of the Hasty Pudding Theatricals, Zoe Rosenthal ’16 and Joshua Friedman ’16, will roast the Man of the Year, Chris Pratt, and present him with his Pudding Pot at 8:00 p.m. in Farkas Hall. Afterwards, the Pudding will present the opening night performance of its 167th production, ““¡Oops!… Madrid it again!.” A press conference will be held at 8:30 p.m. following the roast.
